Lynx Women Close Non-Conference Season with Win Over Kalamazoo

MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College women's lacrosse team moved to 12-0 on the season as they closed the non-conference portion of their schedule with a dominant 23-3 win over Kalamazoo.

The Lynx out shot the Hornet 46-6 including a 38-6 advantage in shots on goal. Rhodes forced 27 turnovers on the day and held the Hornet sto 6 of 23 on clear attempts. The Lynx picked up 33 ground balls and had 19 draw controls.

Rhodes completely dominated the first half, scoring 14 unanswered to take a 14-0 lead at the break. Junior Kendall Cunningham and senior Lindsay Gess each scored three goals in the half while junior Olivia Holmes, junior Erin Gleeson, and sophomore Annika Hedlund each scored a pair 

Despite Kalamazoo getting on the board in the second half, Rhodes did not hold back as they kept up the pressure while clearing the bench en rout to the 23-3 win at Mason Field on Monday afternoon.

Cunningham led the way with seven points, all on goals, while senior Maggie Rippeto had five points including three goals and two assists. Gess and freshman Kaeley Bennett each had four points with Gess scoring three and assisting on one while Bennett score one and assisted on two while Hedlund and Gleeson each had three points, Hedlund with two goals and an assist and Gleeson with three goals.

Holmes scored two while sophomore Taylor Ansel and freshman Brynly Marsh each had a goal. Junior Rachel Windmueller, sophomore Kaylin Ryan, and freshman Aubrey Gray all had one assist.

Cunningham also finished with three caused turnovers and two ground balls while sophomore Daly Colarossi had two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Sophomore Ashley Doyle had five ground balls and four draw controls while Bennett and Hedlund had three ground balls each.

Freshman Lauren Lazure earned the start in goal, finishing with two saves, while junior Katherine Tooley played the final 14 minutes and change, finishing with a save.

The Lynx will now focus on SAA play, where they are currently 3-0, as they prepare to hit hte road this weekend to Atlanta, Ga. for a conference matchup against Oglethorpe at 1 PM.
