Men's Lax Holds Off Scrappy Huntingdon Squad for Road Win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Rhodes College men's lacrosse team built a lead as high as six and held off a furious rally from the Huntingdon Hawks to come away with a 9-7 win on Saturday afternoon at Samford Stadium.

Rhodes dominated the match despite the score, out shooting the Hawks, 43-19, and turning the Hawks over 19 times. The Lynx came away with 27 ground balls and were 12 of 12 in clear attempts.

Rhodes raced out to a 5-1 lead midway through the second and held a 5-3 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, junior Ryan Fennelly took over, scoring the first two goals on the second half and assisting on another as Rhodes pulled away for a 9-3 lead.

Huntingdon made a furious rally at the Lynx late in the third and throughout the fourth, but the Lynx closed the door shut and escaped Montgomery with a 9-7 win to remain unbeaten.

Fennelly continues his outstanding play, finishing with four goals to two assists and a pair of ground balls while sophomore Tyler Milwit added a pair of goals and an assist. Sophomore John Tooher had a goal and assist while senor Matthew Jones and sophomore David Perez each added goals. Junior Steven Yowan and freshman Ethan Garland each had an assist.

Senior John Wancowicz had five ground balls and two caused turnovers while freshman J.J. Hoots had three ground balls. Sophomore Matthew Simon and Tooher each had two caused turnovers. Sophomore Cameron Link earned the win in goal, finishing with four saves in the contest.

Rhodes moves to 4-0 overall and will look to carry that momentum in next Sunday evening as they welcome in the Bridgewater Eagles for a 6 PM contest at Crain Field.
