CONWAY, Ark. - The Rhodes College women's basketball team was outscored 16-3 in the first quarter and could never quite recover as they fell to the Hendrix Warriors in the season finale by the score of 51-41.
For the Lynx, they close their season at 5-20 overall and 4-10 in the SAA and will go into next week's SAA Championship in Birmingham as the No. 8 seed, facing the top-seeded Panthers on the day one.
Rhodes shot 28% from the field and 21% from behind the arc, committing 17 turnovers while being out rebounded 46-33. Rhodes held the Warriors to 24% shooting, but the Warriors got to the free throw line 26 times, shooting 81% in the game.
The poor first quarter made it tough on the Lynx as they found themselves playing from behind for the rest of the contest. Rhodes got as close as six in the second half and closed the gap to 25-18 at the break.
However, another big quarter from Hendrix, this time the third quarter, put Rhodes away for good as they pushed their lead as high as 13 and held off any sort of Rhodes run for a 51-41 victory.
Junior
Jessie Ustick led the Lynx with 11 points, six rebounds, two blocks, and a steal while senior
Bailey Kramer added eight points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Freshman
Anna Muller had five points off the bench to go with six rebounds and three blocks.Â
Junior
Erin Deery and sophomore
Danielle Summers each had two steals while senior
Blaire Smith finished with three assists.
Rhodes, a three-time SAA Champion, moves into a familiar element as they go into postseason play. The Lynx will take on Birmingham-Southern on Friday at 1 PM. The two teams split this season including a win at BSC by the Lynx in their last meeting.
