JACKSON, Miss. - The Rhodes College baseball team could not recover from a slow start in the first three innings as they eventually fell to the LaGrange Panthers, 8-4, on Saturday afternoon at Twenty Field.
The Lynx could only muster four hits on the day and found themselves down 7-0 after the first five innings of play. Rhodes got a pair of runs back in the top of the sixth off the bat of junior Levin Greenberg.
Sophomore
Nick Bosma added a RBI groundout in the seventh while Greenberg had a RBI in the eighth inning to pull it within four runs. However, it would not be enough as LaGrange bested the Lynx for the second time this season.
Greenberg led the way offensively, going 1-for-4 with three RBIs while senior
Bill Munson was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Senior
Ryan Olive went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored.
Junior
Jack Mercer took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits in two innings of work. Sophomore
Cameron Tinker found success in relief late in the game, pitching three complete innings and allowing only one unearned run on one hit.
Rhodes moves to 3-3 overall and will return to action tomorrow afternoon as they open their home season in 2017Â against Fontbonne at 1 PM.
