MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College women's lacrosse team moved to 3-0 on the season as they rolled past the Illinois Wesleyan Titans, 17-6, in their home opener on Friday afternoon at Mason Field.
It was another dominant performance by the Lynx, out shooting the Titans 37-13 as 26 of their shots were on target. Rhodes forced 27 Illinois Wesleyan turnovers while only turning it over 15 times on their end. The Lynx picked up 38 ground balls and had nine free position shots in the game.
Junior
Kendall Cunningham scored back-to-back goals in the first two minutes to take a 2-0 lead. After a Titans goal, the Lynx rattled off five consecutive goals as Cunningham added two more goals while juniors
Olivia Holmes,
Maggie Rippeto, and
Erin Gleeson all scored goals to make it a 7-1 lead.
Illinois Wesleyan scored back-to-back goals to make it a 7-3 game, but Rhodes rattled off another five consecutive goals as Cunningham, Rippeto, and Gleeson added to their goal total while junior
Ashley Doyle and sophomore
Annika Hedlund each scored to make it a 12-4 game at the break.
Rhodes pushed the lead out to 15-4 in the first five minutes behind goals from Gleeson, Rippeto, and Hedlund. The Lynx closed the game with goals from Cunningham and Hedlund to close the games with a dominant 17-6 win.
Cunningham scored six goals on the afternoon to go with two ground balls while Hedlund, Gleeson, and Rippeto all had a hat trick. Rippeto added four assists while Hedlund had two assists. Holmes had three assists while senior
Lindsay Gess had two assists.
Rippeto had five ground balls while Doyle and sophomore
Daly Colarossi each had four ground balls. Gess, junior
Rachel Windmueller, and freshman
Kaeley Bennett had three ground balls. Colarossi had four caused turnovers while Hedlund added three. Doyle also had three draw controls. Junior
Katherine Tooley finished with five saves in the contest.
Rhodes moves to 3-0 on the season and will look to stay perfect on the season tomorrow as they welcome in Berry College in their conference opener at 1 PM.
