Lynx Women's Lacrosse Cap Opening Weekend with Blow Out of Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Rhodes College women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on Sunday afternoon as they took it to the Huntingdon Hawks, running away for a 25-4 victory on the road.

It was another dominant performance for Rhodes, who have already scored 45 goals in just two games so far this season.

Rhodes out shot Huntingdon 50-6 including 38 shots on target. The Lynx corralled 22 ground balls and won 20 draw controls while forcing 22 Hawk turnovers on the afternoon.

The Lynx scored the first eight goals of the game in the first 10 minutes of play as senior Lindsey Gess and juniors Kendall Cunningham and Maggie Rippeto each scored two goals each while junior Olivia Holmes and sophomore Ashley Doyle all added one during the run.

After a Huntingdon goal made it 8-1, Rhodes went on another run of eight straight goals to close the half with freshman Kaeley Bennett leading it off with back-to-back goals followed two goals from senior Ashley Dill, which both came with a man down, and Rippeto as well as a goal from Cunningham and sophomore Taylor Ansel.

Rhodes took their 16-1 lead into the second half where they score five straight to go ahead 21-1. Cunningham, Doyle, Bennett, junior Erin Gleeson, and sophomore Annika Hedlund all got on the board.

Junior McKenna Davis, Ansel, sophomore Casey Glick, and sophomore Lauren Boots closed the game with a goal each as Rhodes finished the game off with a 25-4 victory.

Rippeto finished with four goals and four assists while Cunningham had four goals and one assist. Bennett added three goals and four assists while Gess had two goals and three assists. Gess also had four ground balls along with senior Emily Teague. Teague, Gess, and freshman Madison Rubino all had two caused turnovers.

Dill led the way with three draw controls while Doyle, Glick, and junior Rachel Windmueller each had two. Junior Katherine Tooley got the win in goal.

Rhodes is now 2-0 on the young season and will prepare to open up their home season next weekend as Illinois Wesleyan comes to Mason Field to face the Lynx at 3 PM on Friday.
