Lynx Baseball Suffers Setback to Southwestern on the Road

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Rhodes College baseball team fell to Southwestern on Saturday evening in a neutral site game at Posey Field on the campus of Huntingdon College.

Rhodes scored three runs on 10 hits while committing no errors while Southwestern scored seven runs on 11 hits to go with only one error.

After a one out double from Bill Munson, the senior speedster moved to third on a passed ball and would score on a RBI groundout by senior Bennett Notestine for the early 1-0 lead.

The Pirates responded with three runs in the fourth inning, scoring all of their runs with two outs in the inning. Rhodes got one back in the bottom half of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by freshman Jake Medich.

However, Southwestern scored two more runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to move ahead 7-3. Rhodes scored their third run in the bottom of the sixth as sophomore Nick Bosma scored on a throwing error by the pitcher.

Though Rhodes found ways to get on base, they left seven on as they would eventually fall to the Pirates.

Junior Jack Mercer took the loss, pitching six complete and allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out four. Alex Garrett was excellent in relief as he pitched two complete, allowing no hits and striking out one.

Sophomore Brady John went 2-for-2 on the evening while junior Levi Greenberg went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Munson was 2-for-5 with a run scored while sophomore Chris Winter was 1-for-1 with a pair walks.

Rhodes falls to 0-2 overall and will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon at 12 PM as they take on the Huntingdon Hawks on the Hawks home field.
