MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College women's basketball time won their fourth game in their last five contests as they celebrated Senior Night by rolling rival Centre by the score of 61-37 on Friday night at Mallory Gymnasium.
The Lynx shot 45% from the field on Friday as they out scored Centre 37-16 in the second half. The Lynx held Centre under 10 points for three out of the four quarters. Rhodes forced 16 turnovers including 10 steals and out rebounds the Colonels 40-39. They also held Centre to 26% shooting in the game including 2 of 14 from behind the arc.
It was a back-and-forth first quarter with Centre taking a 12-11 lead at the end of the period. The Colonels kept their foot on the gas pedal early in the second quarter and took an 18-11 lead with 7:11 to play in the quarter.
Rhodes would dominate the rest of the period as they went on a 13-3 run behind four points from sophomores
Allie Young and
Sara Giesen. The run pushed Lynx ahead 24-21 going into the break.
The Lynx exploded in the third quarter, out scoring the Colonels 22-9 in the quarter as Young and junior
Jessie Ustick continued to dominate while the Lynx two seniors,
Bailey Kramer and
Blaire Smith, really carried the team throughout the second half.
Centre cut the lead down to 39-30, but a 7-0 Rhodes run thanks to a steal and layup from Young, forcing the foul and completing the 3-point play, as well as jumpers from Kramer and Smith put Rhodes on top 46-30 going in the fourth.
The Lynx gave the Colonels no shot of getting back into it, clamping down on defense and hold Centre to only seven points in the quarter. The Lynx got to the free throw line often and closed the game out with a big win on their home court.
Young scored 14 points to go with five steals and four boards while Smith scored 11 to go with three assists. Kramer had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds  while Ustick scored 10 to go with seven rebounds. Freshman
Anna Muller had seven boards and two blocks off the bench.
Centre was led by Caroline Andreassen with seven points while Cheyenne Bunner had six points and seven rebounds.
Rhodes moves to 6-18 overall and 4-8 in the SAA. They will close out their home season on Sunday as they welcome in their in-state rival Sewanee at 1 PM.
