Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Second-quarter woes spoil game at UT-Martin

Martin, Tenn - Rhodes College women's basketball saw their four-game win streak end with a 90-49 loss at NCAA Division I The University of Tennessee-Martin. The Lynx and Skyhawks played in front of over 3,000 fans, during the Annual Kids Game.

Sophomore Alyssa Owens nailed a deep three-pointer to cut the Skyhawk lead to 27-23 with four and a half minutes left in the first half, but UT-Martin's full-court press began to take its toll on the short-benched Lynx. The Skyhawks then went on a 21-point run, only broken up after Jessie Ustick scored five straight points for the Lynx. UT-Martin ended the first half on a last-second trey to lead 51-28.

In the first half, UT-Martin took advantage of the Lynx with 14 steals. Kendall Spray held 20 points on six three-pointers already, on her way to a new program record, 11 treys in the game for 35 total points.

During the game, Owens finished with 14 points which included going eight-of-eight for the Lynx at the charity stripe. Ustick finished with 11 points. Allie Young led the boards with eight rebounds followed by seven rebounds each from Owens and Moriah Muhammad.

Rhodes committed 27 turnovers in the game, 21 from the first half alone.

The Lynx are now 5-2 on the year and look ahead to their weekend of competition. Rhodes travels to Texas Dec. 16-17 to go up against Austin College and the University of Dallas. The Lynx are back at home on Dec. 30th against University of the Ozarks.
