Memphis - In their final home game before winter break, the Lynx fell victim to Covenant College 120-110 Tuesday afternoon. Both teams entered the game with 5-3 records.
Rhodes led 28-20 until the Scots took a 33-30 advantage. The Lynx held their final lead of the game (34-33) with 4:09 to go before halftime before Covenant pulled ahead by 10 points to finish the half.Â
The Lynx were down by 15 points before pulling that deficit down to four points with 5:12 to play after
Jake Nestlehutt nailed a three pointer. The Scots broke away on an 8-2 run to eventually seal the win.Â
For Rhodes,
Owen Galvin led with 17 points, netting all seven field goals including three treys. The sophomore missed just one free throw attempt as he also tallied four rebounds and two steals.
Anesu Nyawata was second for the Lynx with 15 points and five assists. Scoring 14 points was
Mitch Weatherford who went five-of-seven on the afternoon.
For Covenant, James Mitchell recorded nine three-pointers on his way to the game-high 27 points. Five of those were scored in the first half. Two Scots recorded 26 points while the lone double-double went to PatjoTwagirayezu with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Bailey Spragg tallied 10 assists in the contest.Â
Rhodes is off from competition until December 29th when they host Texas-Dallas at 4pm, followed by the University of Dallas on New Year's Eve at 2 p.m.
