MEMPHIS - Rhodes College men's basketball wrapped up play in their Four Points by Sheraton Tip-Off Tournament with a loss to Johns Hopkins in the Championship game. The Lynx fell 118-104 while Hopkins improved to 3-0 on the year.
The Blue Jays were faster than the Lynx on the ground and utilized long throws to beat the full-court press to gain the lead. Hopkins came out strong, securing a trey on the first shot attempt, and followed it up with a block and a steal to force the Lynx to a lineup change. The Blue Jays never relinquished the lead. They held a 10-8 advantage before scoring eight straight points on their way to a 67-49 halftime lead.Â
Rhodes outscored Hopkins 55-51 in the second half and cut their deficit to seven points with 2:35 left in the game.Â
During the loss, Anesu Nyawata led Rhodes with 18 points while
Ian Harrison netted 16 going six-of-seven in the field.
Bryce Berry and
Mitch Weatherford each scored 15 points. Weatherford added five assists.Â
Johns Hopkins out-rebounded Rhodes 44-28 with only three offensive boards. The Blue Jays shot 67.8% in the field and 63.6% from long range.Â
Rhodes shots 41.3% in the field and just 20.7% from three-point range.
The Lynx will travel to Belhaven University Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. game before hosting Howard Payne and Illinois Wesleyan in their Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 25-26.Â
