Atlanta, Ga. - Twenty-seven first-quarter points were enough to lift the Lynx to a 76-64 season-opening victory on the road Wednesday night. Rhodes women's basketball head coach
Lauren Sumski earned her first head coaching win at her alma mater as the Lynx shot 46.9% in the field and out-rebounded the Eagles 48-38. Rhodes also made 10-of-15 free throws while Emory crumbled at the line, sinking only five of 11 attempts.

Lindsey Whiteside opened scoring with a layout immediately on the first possession. Play would go back and forth until the Lynx went up 10-7 on senior
Erin Deery's second three-pointer of the game. Rhodes would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the game and score nine consecutive points to lead 19-9 halfway through the first quarter. Rhodes led 27-18 at the first break and after Emory began pressing in the second quarter, Rhodes' scoring slowed after two 10-second backcourt turnovers. The Lynx led the Eagles 42-31 at halftime.Â
Emory pulled within six points (35-29) but wouldn't get any closer until 1:19 was left in the third quarter after Erin Lindahl drained a three-pointer, cutting Rhodes lead to 54-49. The Lynx held the Eagles scoreless (51 points) for three and half minutes in the fourth quarter, while adding seven points to the scoreboard, inevitably pulling out the victory.Â
Game Highlights
Deery netted three consecutive three-point attempts in the first quarter. She went four-of-six on the day from long range and tallied 17 points in the game.
Deery and Whiteside led the game with 37 minutes played. Whiteside recorded career highs with eight rebounds and four assists.
DII transfer,
Alyssa Owens barely missed a double-double as she led the Lynx with 21 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Junior
Allie Young double-doubled to open the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds. She went 9-of-14 in the field including several reverse layups.Â
For Emory, Lindahl netted five treys for the game-high 22 points. Lindsey Tse recored eight rebounds and seven assitss and Ashley Oldshue scored 16 points while retreiving nine rebounds which included six offensive boards.
