Lexington, Ky. - Rhodes College field hockey won their second overtime game in a row, this time defeating Transylvania University 3-2. Both overtime victories came on back-to-back road games.
The hosts scored first on a penalty stroke before the Lynx scored just 40 seconds into the second half when
Hailey Mules served up
Lauren Travis for the tying goal.
Rhodes took the lead when
Jillian Christensen ripped a shot from the top of the circle after receiving a corner
Julia Schiciano. Transy returned a timely goal just 18 seconds before regulation ended to force overtime. On another penalty corner, two captains connected for the game-winning goal.
Maddie Smith sent the ball to the top of the circle which found
Mackenzie Busby. Busy's shot was tipped in by Smith to end the thrilling battle between conference opponents.
During the game, Rhodes recorded 24 shots to Transy's four and held a 7-0 penalty corner advantage. Transy goalkeeper Allyson Benz secured nine saves.
Rhodes improves to 3-0 in SAA play and 7-4 overall. The Lynx are at home this Thursday when they host Ferrum at 4 p.m.
