Memphis - In a tight tactical matchup, Rhodes men's soccer fell victim to a conference-leading Oglethorpe team Sunday afternoon 1-0. In the final 20 minutes of play both teams felt the pressure with several heated moments which led to three cards in five minutes including two on Rhodes within 20 seconds of each other.
Oglethorpe's offensive chances in the first half out-numbered Rhodes 7-1 before Rhodes returned the favor in the second half, taking eight shots to the Stormy Petrels' three.
Mark Robinson made a laser of a shot in the 87th minute which put Rhodes fans on edge, but Oglethorpe goalkeeper Luke Whelan made the diving stop to his left to ensure the shutout.
Oglethorpe is now 9-2-1 on the year and 3-0-1 in SAA play. Rhodes, who is 6-3-2 overall and 2- 2 in conference, will travel to Centre and Sewanee Oct. 13th and 15th.
