Danville, Ky. - Rhodes came off the tough end of a strong fought match Friday night at Centre College, falling 2-1. The Lynx are now 6-4-2 on the year and 2-3 in SAA play as Centre improves to 6-4-2 overall as well but haven't lost in conference with their 2-0-2 record.
Rhodes goalie Patrick Wilkerson was put to the test early as Centre tallied 11 shots in the first half, scoring one goal. The Colonel's scored again in the 55th minute to take a 2-0 lead.
Rhodes senior William Mitchell capitalized on a penalty kick in the 77th minute, cutting the Colonels' lead in half. It was the Little Rock, Ark. native's fifth goal of the season as he's scored in three of the team's last four games.
The Lynx didn't give up and pressured the Colonels all the way up until the end of the game. Each team was almost equal in shots, (Centre-15; Rhodes-12) while Rhodes held a slight edge over Centre in corner kicks (3-2).
Rhodes will next play on Sunday at Sewanee at 3 p.m.
