Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lynx tie Hendrix on Senior Day

Memphis, Tenn. - Rhodes College women's soccer finished the regular season in a 2- 2 tie Saturday afternoon at home against Hendrix College. The Lynx are now 8-5-2 overall and 4-2-1 in SAA play, and are seeded third for the SAA Tournament. It looks like Rhodes and Hendrix will square off once again next Saturday in the first round of the conference tournament on Oct. 28th.

Prior to the game, Rhodes honored seniors Ellie Valega, Gabbi Serrato, Anna Maldonado, Merrill Stovroff, Emma Selner, and Hope Elliott. The seniors will try to end competition on their home field with a win next Saturday.

Hendrix scored the first goal of the game in the 12th minute, but on the next possession and just 10 seconds later Rhodes tied the game when Hope Elliott's slip pass up the middle found Sydnie Schindler all alone for the one vs. one.

The Warriors took a 2-1 lead in the 15th minute when Hagan Griffith netted her second goal of the game. Her boot from outside the top left of the box curved over Maldonado and into the bottom of the far right corner. The Warriors had a chance to take a two-goal lead in the 38th minute, but the penalty kick went wide. Hendrix maintained the lead for the next 54 minutes until the Lynx scored on almost the same play before. This time, Schindler slipped the ball straight ahead to Aly Hoyt who one-touched the grounder past the Warrior keeper to tie the game.

Maldonado ensured overtime when she came up with a big save with just over four minutes left in the game. Her diving, lateral save on a hard shot by Griffith was the final shot/save of the half.

In the game, Rhodes recorded 21 shots to the Warriors 16 while each goalie recorded six saves. Rhodes also maintained a 4-1 corner kick advantage.
