Elise Grisoni scored four goals with one assist while sophomore
Sydnie Schindler had a hat trick as the Rhodes College women's soccer team rolled the Millsaps Majors by the score of 10-0 on Friday afternoon at the Rhodes Soccer Field.
Rhodes opens Southern Athletic Association play with a win, going to 1-0 and 4-2 overall, while Millsaps falls to 0-6-1 overall and 0-1 in the SAA.
The Lynx were dominant from the first whistle, out shooting the Majors 40-1 including a 17-0 advantage in shots on target. Rhodes also had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks on Friday afternoon.
Grisoni wasted little time, earning a hat trick in the first 15 minutes of action. She scored her first goal in the 4th minute on a pass from junior
Emma Selner, in the 6th minute on a pass from senior
Nicolette Glidden, and in the 15th minute on a pass from junior
Hope Elliott.
Schindler then got in on the action, scoring two goals later in the half. She notched her first on an assist from junior
Rachel Coyle in the 30th minute follow by another Coyle to Schindler connection in the 34th minute. Rhodes would cruise to their 5-0 lead at half, earning a 25-0 shot advantage in the first half of play.
In the second half, Schindler would earn her hat trick in the 48th minute as Grisoni earned the assist. In the 49th minute, Grisoni made it four goals on Selner's second assist to put Rhodes up 7-0.
The Lynx would get goals from Glidden in the 57th minute and a pair of goals from freshman
Katelyn Curtis in the 73rd and 74th minute to close out the match. Elliott and sophomore
Aly Hoyt each had assists on the final two goals.
The Rhodes forwards were dominant all afternoon, even from attackers who did not get in the stat sheet such as senior
Angie Hurlow, sophomore
Brenna Katz, and freshman
Jenny Neil. The Lynx defense, anchored by senior
Kelsey Sweeney, junior
Ellie Valega, and freshman
Carly Cone were masterful all afternoon, keeping possession and giving Millsaps no chance whatsoever in their attack.
Junior
Anna Maldonado played the first 45 minutes while sophomore
Olivia Marshall played the second half. Both did not have a ton of action their way, but did a great job talking and keeping the defense set.
Rhodes will return to action next Saturday as they will take on Birmingham-Southern in conference play. Kick off is set for 4 p.m. from the Rhodes College Soccer Field.
