MEMPHIS - After falling behind 2-0 to the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels, the Rhodes College volleyball team would rally to win the next three sets and earned their first conference victory over the season on Sunday afternoon at Mallory Gymnasium.
Rhodes hit .160 for the match, finishing with 63 kills to 33 errors. The Lynx hit over .150 for the last four sets after hitting only -.094 in the first set. Oglethorpe finished with 44 kills and 25 errors for a .105 hitting percentage in the match.
The Lynx would fall behind and drop the first set, 25-21. In the second set, down 24-18, the Lynx rallied for six straight points behind brilliant serving from sophomore
Mackenzie Capetillo to the tie the set at 24. After a back-and-forth exchange, the Stormy Petrels would go up 2-0, winning 27-25.
The effort at the end of the second set seem to spark the Lynx as they would jump out to a 6-0 lead in the third set behind kills from sophomores
August Bishop and
Morgan Hill. The Lynx extended that lead to 10-3 and eventually made it 15-5 as sophomore

Heather Antrim got in on the action.
Oglethorpe put together a small rally towards the end of the set, but it was not enough as Rhodes won the set, 25-18.
In the fourth set, Oglethorpe would take a 12-8 lead before Rhodes scored five of the next six points to take a 14-13 lead. After the Stormy Petrels tied it at 14, Bishop and Hill were able to come away with a few kills to take the lead and push it out to 17-14.
With the game at 19-18, Rhodes closed the set with six straight points behind kills from Antrim and sophomore
Ellen Platt and service aces from sophomore
Camila Zimmerman to win the set.
Perlis, Hill, and Bishop got Rhodes rolling in the fifth set as they jumped out to an 8-3 lead. Oglethorpe would fire back as the team's switched sides, but Rhodes held a 14-11 lead. Despite getting the match to 14-13, Rhodes was able to close the match on a kill from Hill to earn a big Southern Athletic Association win.
Rhodes moves to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the SAA.
Bishop finished with 21 kills, hitting .326 in the match while Platt, Antrim, and Schulz added eight kills a piece. Perlis had seven kills in the match while Hill had five. Sophomore
Hannah McCarty had 26 assists while freshman
Lindsey Blasius added 26. Capetillo would finish with four service aces while Bishop added three.
Defensively, senior
Catherine Grimes had 27 digs while Zimmerman had 13. McCarty picked up 12 digs and Capetillo had 11 in the contest. Antrim had five blocks while Perlis had four.
Rhodes will be back in action on Saturday as they hit the road to Jackson, Miss. for a 11 AM SAA matchup against the Millsaps Majors.
