MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College women's soccer team fought off both the weather and the Webster Gorloks ot earn a 2-0 win on Sunday afternoon at the Rhodes Soccer Field. The Lynx move to 3-2 on the season.
Rhodes held a 19-8 advantage in shots including an 8-3 lead in shots on goal. The Lynx also held a 5-2 in corner kicks on the afternoon. Rhodes ws especially dominant in the second half, out shooting Webster, 11-2.
In the first half, the two teams would have to vacate the field early on due to lightning in the area. As both teams returned, the Lynx took complete control of the match, using beautiful passing and movement on the offensive end combined with a stingy defense.
Rhodes would get the first goal of the game in the 42nd minute as junior
Hope Elliott struck for her fifth goal of the season to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead going into the break.
A shortened halftime due to incoming inclement weather found both teams back on the field quickly. The Rhodes offense worked hard to find a second goal, getting great contributions from the likes of sophomore
Rachel Giampapa, freshman
Katelyn Curtis, junior
Emma Selner, and senior
Nicolette Glidden.
After numerous attempts coming up just short, Rhodes finally found goal number two in the 69th minutes as senior
Angie Hurlow sent a great ball into the box for freshman
Jenny Neil, who finished to make it 2-0.
Rhodes used spectacular defense and possession to close out the contest and earn their second straight victory, moving to 3-2 overall on the season.
Giampapa led the attacked with four shots while Selner and Elliott each added three a piece. Sophomore

Kelsey Sweeney did a outstanding job on the defensive end while junior
Anna Maldonado earned the win in goal with three saves.
Rhodes will be back at home on Friday as they open up Southern Athletic Association play with a 5 PM matchup against the Millsaps Majors.
