MEMPHIS - Coming off a huge win over Centre on Saturday afternoon, the Rhodes College field hockey team completed a perfect Southern Athletic Association weekend by defeating the Transylvania Pioneers, 3-0, to move to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Rhodes was absolutely dominant on both sides of the ball, out shooting the Pioneers 23-1 including a 17-1 advantage in shots on target. Rhodes also had 14 penalty corners to only five from the Pioneers.
The Lynx wasted no time to get on the scoreboard as senior
Erin Best scores on an assist from fellow senior
Christina DiFelice to take the early lead. The Lynx would out shoot Transylvania 17-1 in the first half alone, but only had the goal to show for for most of the half.
With under two minutes remaining in the game, Rhodes earned a penalty stroke and had a chance to add to their one goal lead. Senior
Kennedy Brislin stepped up and ripped a beautiful shot into the top left corner to put the Lynx up 2-0 going into halftime.
Three minutes into the second half, DiFelice scored and became the new career leader in goals scored for Rhodes College field hockey with her 43rd goal in her spectacular career. Rhodes paused and recognized DiFelice's amazing accomplishment before finishing out the half with a dominant defensive performance for the shutout win.
Rhodes got great performances from freshman
Daryl Perry, sophomore
Jillian Christensen, and senior
Mackenzie Busby. DiFelice, Busby, and Best each had five shots on the day while Christensen and junior
Lauren Travis added two shots.
Freshman
Nina Migneco got her first career start in goal and earned her first career win, finishing with one save in the contest.
Rhodes will prepare to hit the road as they prepare to take over rival Sewanee in a non-conference matchup at 2 PM on Friday.
