McKeand's Hat Trick Powers Lynx to Wild Win Over ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas - Junior Matt McKeand scored three goals for the Rhodes College men's soccer team as they picked up a huge win on the road over the East Texas Baptist Tigers by the score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at Cornish Field.

The Lynx were out shot on the day 15-8 including a 12-7 advantage in shots on target. ETBU also held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks; however, the Lynx made it count when they needed it most in their most high scoring game of the season.

McKeand got his amazing day started in the seventh minute as sophomore Austin Ly found McKeand who was able to put it away for the early lead. The Tigers responded with a goal on a free kick in the 25th minute to even the game.

McKeand responded immediately, getting a goal in the 27th minute and following that up with his third goal in the 44th minute, three seconds before half to give Rhodes a 3-1 lead at the break.

Joel Ramirez would make a it a one goal game for East Texas Baptist as he scored in the 52nd minute, but junior William Mitchell would put the Lynx ahead 4-2 on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute. 

Ramirez would score for the second time in the 69th minutes, but the Rhodes defense would step up huge in the final 20 minutes to hold on to their lead and pick up their second win of the season, moving to 2-3-1 overall. East Texas Baptist falls to 4-2.

Freshman Bowen Burdettem sophomore Davis Neitzschman, and freshman Nick Isolani all had a shot on the day. Junior Mark Robinson finished with two assists on the afternoon. Sophomore Patrick Wilkerson got the start in goal, finishing with four saves in 68 minutes while junior Robby DelBello finished the game out with three saves.

Rhodes will be back in Memphis for a weekday game on Wednesday, but will technically be on the road as they take on Christian Brothers in a non-conference tilt scheduled for 7 PM.
