Penalty Kicks Force Lynx to a 2-2 Draw with LeTourneau

LONGVIEW, Texas - Despite goals from freshman Will Lawler and junior Mark Robinson, the Rhodes College men's soccer team gave up penalty kicks early in the first half and late in the second half as they finished with a draw against LeTourean on Friday afternoon on the road.

The Lynx dominated most of the match, put shooting the YellowJackets 21-9, but only holding an 8-5 advantage in shots on target. Rhodes had an overwhelming 11-3 advantage in corners including 6-1 in the second half.

LeTourneau got on the board first on a PK in the third minute to take a 1-0 lead. Rhodes responded six minutes later in the ninth minute as junior William Mitchell sent a beautiful pass to freshman Will Lawler who finished at the back post to even things up.

The Lynx continued to get many looks at goal, but the score would remain the same going into the break.

Rhodes would break through two minutes into the second half as senior Conner Tipton's corner kick found Robinson for his third goal of the season and a 2-1 advantage.

The Lynx conitnued to hold possession, getting nine shots off throughout the half, but LeTourneau's defense held to keep the score at 2-1.

The YellowJackets would force their second penalty kick of the match as Madrid would score again to tie the match at two a piece.

The match moved to overtime, but only one shot would be taken in the two periods of OT and the game would end in a disappointing draw for the Lynx.

Sophomore Austin Ly led the offensive attack with four shots on teh day while Lawler, Robinson, and freshman Bowen Burdette each added three shots a piece. Sophomore Davis Neitzschman and freshman Nick Isolani also got in on the action with two shots each.

Freshman Jaimin Patel played the first 45 minutes,, picking up two saves in 45 minutes of action. Sophomore Patrick Wilkerson finished out the match, playing 65 minutes and picking up a save.

Rhodes will go down the street to Marshall, Texas as they preapre for a 3:00 PM matchup against East Texas Baptist on Saturday afternoon.
