MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College women's soccer team moved to 2-2 on the season as they defeated the Bethel Wildcats by the score of 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Rhodes College Soccer Complex.
The Lynx were dominant despite a slow start, out shooting Bethel 17-8 including a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Lynx also had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks on the afternoon.
Rhodes was a little slow out of the gate as the Wildcats got two quick looks on goal, but junior
Anna Maldonado was able to come away with the saves to keep the game scoreless early on.
The Lynx began to find their football and began to dominate possession throughout the rest of the first half. Rhodes got their first goal of the game in the 30th minutes as sophomore
Aly Hoyt sent a beautiful pass to senior
Elise Grisoni who put away her first goal of the season for the early lead.
Rhodes would take that one goal lead into the break and was able to start fast in the second half, notching their second goal in the 53rd minute as great passing near the box ended in a goal by senior
Nicolette Glidden off an excellent pass from sophomore
Molly Litten.
The Lynx made it three goals in the 67th minutes as junior
Hope Elliott continued her terrific play off the bench, scoring her fourth goal of the season on another outstanding pass, this time from freshman
Katelyn Curtis. The comfortable lead was more than enough for Rhodes as they cruised to the 3-0 win.
The Rhodes defense was spectacular on Wednesday afternoon led by sophomore
Christine Zachry and senior
Kelsey Sweeney. Maldonado finished with four saves in goal on the afternoon to earn her second win of the season.
The Lynx will remain at home as they welcome Webster University to the Rhodes Soccer Complex for a Sunday afternoon tilt scheduled for 1 PM.
