Lynx Can't Contain Westminster in Second Half; Fall 4-2 at Home

MEMPHIS - Goals from juniors William Mitchell and Mark Robinson had the game knotted up at two going into the break; however, the Westminster Blue Jay would score two goals to pull away and defeat Rhodes 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Volgas Memorial Tournament.

The Lynx fall to 1-3 on the season while Westminster moves to 3-1. The Blue Jays held a 15-5 advantage in shots including 9-2 in shots on target. Rhodes earned more corner kick in the game, coming away with four to Westminster's one.

The Blue Jays got on the boards in only the 2nd minute as Danile Barone hit a beautiful free kick from about 25 yards out for the early 1-0 lead.

Rhodes would respond in the 16th minute as sophomore Brenden Huie sent a perfect ball into the box where Mitchell was able to head it into the back of the net. For Mitchell, it was his third goal of the season as it evened the score at one.

Westminster made it 2-1 in the 34th minute on another brilliant strike, this time from Austin Chandler, but Rhodes had another answer three minutes later as senior Conner Tipton found Robinson to even the game at two going into the break.

The Blue Jays used a goal early in the half again to take the lead back as David Immanuel struck for a goal in the 46th minute. Rhodes would fight to try and find an equalizer, but Westminster clinched the match with a goal in the 81st minute by Drake Trease.

Robinson, who score his second goal of the season in the matchup, led the offensive attack with three shots on the afternoon while Mitchell and freshman Bowen Burdette each added a shot. Freshman Jaimin Patel took the loss despite making five saves in the game.

Rhodes will return to action on Friday afternoon as they will travel to Longview, Texas for a 3 p.m. matchup against the LeTourneau YellowJackets.
