MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College volleyball team completed a perfect weekend as they defeated the LaGrange Panthers and the Covenant Scots in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at Mallory Gymnasium.
With the wins, Rhodes goes to 4-3 overall including a 3-0 weekend at the Blues City Invite.
In their first matchup against LaGrange, Rhodes had one of their best hitting performances of the year, finishing with 41 kills to 10 errors for a .369 hitting percentage. The Lynx hit over .300 as a team in all three sets and hit a red hot .478 in the third set.
Rhodes kept their foot on the gas pedal the entire match as they gave the Panthers no hope, sweeping 25-18, 25-17, 25-13.
Sophomore
Lulu Schulz continues to play at an unreal level, finishing with 12 blocks in the three set match to go with six kills and two service aces. Sophomore
August Bishop had 10 kills and a .389 hitting percentage while sophomores
Katherine Bolyard and
Ellen Platt each added nine kills.
Sophomore
Hannah McCarty had 19 assists while freshman Lindsay Blasius had 17. Platt and freshman
Heather Antrim each added five blocks while senior
Catherine Grimes had 10 digs.
The Lynx carried all of their momentum into the match against Covenant, this time finishing with 46 kills to 13 errors for a .324 hitting percentage. The Lynx hit .500 in the first set and had 13 or more kills as a team in each set including 17 in the final set.
Rhodes dominated the first set to a 25-10 win and then held off the Scots in both the second and third set by the score of 25-23.
Antrim led the team with 12 kills and four blocks to go with a .500 hitting percentage while Bishop picked up eight kills. Junior
Gabby Gafford came off the bench for five kills and an impressive .833 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Camila Zimmerman had four service aces while Grimes and Schulz each added two.
Defensively, Schulz was incredible again with nine blocks for a total of 30 blocks in only three games this weekend. Grimes added 12 digs while Zimmerman had 10. Blasius led the way with 20 assists while McCarty had 17.
Rhodes will return to action on Wednesday night as they open up conference play against the Hendrix Warriors. It is the first SAA contest for both teams and matches the Lynx against the defending SAA Champs. The two teams will meet in Conway with the match scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
