DANVILLE, Ky. – The Rhodes College women's lacrosse team fell to Centre Colonels by a score of 15-11 on Saturday afternoon. The late season conference game gave the Lynx their first conference loss on the year.
The first quarter went back and forth with a barrage of goals exchanged on either side. Right off the bat the Lynx took a quick 2-0 lead over the Colonels with goals by Maggie Rippeto and Kendal Cunningham, but the Colonels wasted no time in answering with two goals of their own. The game continued that way for much of the first half, as the lead changed hands three times in just the first half alone. By then end of the first half Rhodes and Centre were locked up 9-9.
Rhodes came out strong in the second with a goal from Kendal Cunningham and few minutes later another from Ashley Doyle. But the Colonel's defense came alive around the 23rd minute as they were able to shut Rhodes out for the remainder of the half. Centre's offense did not stop either as they were able to tack on 6 goals in the second half making the final score, 15-11 in favor of the Colonels.
But there is a silver lining for the Lynx as Rhodes had plenty of opportunities throughout the game as they shot the ball 41 times, and had 7 Free position attempts. The Lynx also won the groundball game today winning 19 groundballs compared to Centre's 16.
The Lynx will be back in action on Saturday April 9th at 1:00pm when they take on rival Sewanee, which will have big implications for the seeding of the SAA tournament.
