Morris Spins Gem as Lynx Shutout Petrels at SAA Championship

CONWAY, Ark. - Senior Daniel Morris tossed a complete game shutout as the Rhodes College baseball team, the No. 3 seed at the SAA Baseball Championship, picked up its fourth consecutive win over the No. 6 Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels, 5-0.

Morris went the whole way, allowing no runs on six hits and finishing with 10 strikeouts and only two walks as he was nothing short of dominant on the bump.

Oglethorpe's ace, Matt Davis, took the mound and kept the Lynx scoreless on the board through four complete. However, Rhodes struck in the fifth inning as junior RYan Olive led the inning off with a single followed by stealing second. After freshman Will Hunt moved him to third, sophomore Zac Lange drove Olive in with a sac fly for the 1-0 lead.

Later that same inning, senior Nathan Foshee doubled to left center while freshman Brady John drove him in for the 2-0.

Morris continued to keep the Petrels in check in the later innings as Oglethorpe could not find a way to climb back into the game. A RBI double from Hunt in the sixth gave Rhodes a 3-0 lead.

In the eighth innning, Rhodes added a pair of runs in the eighth off RBIs from Hunt and Foshee to add insurance to the lead as Morris finished it off in the ninth for the victory.

The Lynx will move on to the 12 PM game tomorrow to take on either No. 2 Hendirx or No. 7 Centre. The winner moves on to the finals of the pool.
