Late Rally Sinks Lynx Baseball in Loss to Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College baseball team allowed five runs in the fifth and one in the sixth as Christian Brothers came from behind to defeat their cross-town rival, 7-4, on Tuesday afternoon at Stauffer Field.

Rhodes jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning as freshman Ben Siegel drove in the first run on a RBI double to left center followed by a sac fly from junior Bill Munson. After CBU added a run in the fourth, Munson made it a 3-1 game as he singled home a run.

However, the Bucs exploded for five runs in the seventh as nearly all the runs scored with two outs in the inning. CBU made it a 7-3 game in the eighth off a sacrifice fly.

Rhodes began to rally in the eighth and ninth innings. In the eighth, the Lynx loaded the bases, but could not get a run home to cut into the deficit. Sophomore Zac Lange drove in a run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly while the tying run came to the plate. However, it was not to be as Rhodes eventually fell to their Division II foe from down the road.

Freshman Nick Bosma earned the start and went four innings, allowing one run on five hits. Freshman Cameron Tinker was saddled with the loss while sophomore Will Vance and freshman Parker Pell had good outing out of the bullpen late in the game.

Munson continues his tear at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Siegel finished 1-for-2 with a double and a RBI. Freshman Jacob Telli went 1-for-4 with a pair of runs scored while senior Marcus Moreland went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two walks. Lange finished 0-for-1 with a RBI and three walks.

Rhodes forced nine walks on the afternoon, but ended up leaving 11 runners on base.

The Lynx go to 19-18 overall and will move into their final weekend of the season as they return to Stauffer Field for a three-game series against Oglethorpe University. Rhodes will celebrate their seniors throughout the weekend. The Lynx and Petrels open their series on Saturday, with a doubleheader beginning at 12 PM.
