Men's Lax Drops Regular Season Finale to Sewanee; Earns No. 5 Seed

SEWANEE, Tenn. - In the battle of two rivals, the Sewanee Tigers clinched the Southern Athletic Association Regular Season Title outright with a 15-6 win over the Rhodes College men's lacrosse team. With the loss and the Berry win over BSC earlier, Rhodes earned the No. 5 seed in the upcoming SAA Championship.

The Lynx were out shot 50-27 on the day and had 18 turnovers to Sewanee's six. The Tigers also held a 36-22 advantage in ground balls and were 15-for-24 in face offs.

Sophomore Ryan Fennelly got the Rhodes attack rolling early in the game, scoring seven seconds into the match for a 1-0 lead. After two Sewanee goals, freshmen Austin Le and Henry Hasbrouck scored back-to-back goals for a 3-2 lead at the end of one.

However, from there, Sewanee went on to outscore the Lynx, 13-3. Sewanee scored five straight goals in the second quarter to take a 7-3 lead. Senior Cooper Robinson scored before break to keep the game at 7-4.

The Lynx made it a 7-5 game as Fennelly scored his second goal of the game, but Sewanee erupted for four straight goals and six in the quarter to lead 13-6 after three. They added two more goals in the fourth for the 15-6 victory.

Fennelly finished with a hat trick on the day while Le, Hasbrouck, and Robinson each added a goal. Freshman Tyler Milwit had an assist. Junior Mike Knudsen and sophomore Austin Bridgforth each had a caused turnover while Fennelly and sophomore John Snyder each had three ground balls. Sophomore Cameron Link finished with 12 saves.

The Lynx conclude the season with an impressive 11-4 overall record and a 4-3 record in SAA play. Rhodes, Berry, and BSC finished in a tie for third in the SAA standings. With all three teams finishing 1-1, Berry earned the No. 3 seed with the least conference goals allowed. The tie break format then called to head-to-head which BSC held over Rhodes.

The Lynx will take on the Panthers on Saturday in Birmingham in a SAA Quarterfinal matchup. The time will be announced later this week.
