Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Lynx Lax Drops First Contest of the Season to Susquehanna

MEMPHIS - Despite numerous lightning delays and a 6 hour and 40 minute duration, the Rhodes College men's lacrosse team ultimately lost their first game of the season, falling to the Susquehanna University Crusaders, 14-6, on a rainy Wednesday evening.

The Crusaders outshot the Lynx 33-25 including a 22-17 advantage in shots on goal. Rhodes forced Susquehanna into 23 turnovers and only turned it over 18 times, but struggled on faceoffs, going 3-for-24.

The two teams traded goals to start the game as senior Matt Vavrek scored the Lynx first goal of the contest. Susquehanna took a 2-1 lead into the second quarter, but Rhodes evened it up on a goal from freshman Tyler Milwit.

After the Crusader went ahead 4-2, Milwit responded with his second goal of the game to cut the deficit to one. The two teams exchanged goals to the end of the half as senior Cooper Robinson and junior Matthew Jones each scored as the game went into the break with Susquehanna leading 6-5.

A very lengthy delay would take place twice throughout the third quarter and the Lynx could not seem to respond from it as the Crusaders outscored Rhodes, 8-1, in the second half to pull away for the win.

Milwit led the way with two goals while freshman John Tooher scored the lone goal in the second half. Sophomore Tommy Reingruber had two assists while Milwit added one. Junior John Wancowicz had three caused turnovers while sophomore John Snyder added two. Sophomore Steven Yowan picked up six groundballs while Wancowicz added five. Freshman Cameron Link had five saves in goal.

Rhodes is now 7-1 on the season and will be back in action next weekend as they welcome in Hendrix College for their first Southern Athletic Association contest of the year. Faceoff is set for 3:00 PM.
