Eason Sets Huge Mark; Lynx Strong in First Outdoor Meet

CLINTON, Miss. - The Rhodes College men's and women's track and field team opened up their outdoor season on Saturday afternoon at the Mississippi College Outdoor Opener and did so with a bang.

Sophomore Renn Eason set a huge mark in the high jump, setting a new PR as well as the second highest jump in school history at 2.10m, easily winning the competition and setting himself up to more-than-likely qualify for the NCAA Championships later this year. Junior Jay Baker placed third in the event with a jump of 1.88m.
 

In throws, sophomore Tej Suber had a monster day, winning the hammer throw with a mark of 45.30m while placing second in both the discus and shot put with throws of 35.98m and 12.51m.

Senior Matt Dsida had a huge day in distance, placing first in the 1500 meter with a time of 3:58.32, the only runner under four minutes. Fellow teammates Spencer Fields and Connor Fagan placed third and fourth with times of 4:06.71 and 4:07.00. Dsida turned around and ran a strong 800 meter with a fifth place finish of 1:58.87.

On the women's side, the distance team put together a huge day as four Lynx finished in the top five of the 1500 meter. Sophomore Ashley Litoff won the event with a time of 4:49.60 followed by senior Brittany Alexander with a time of 4:49.88. Sophomore Abby Watkins placed fourth with a time of 4:54.51 while sophomore Reagan Alley finished fifth with a time of 4:56.25.

Freshman Megan Jackson won the 5000 meter with a time of 19:17.39 while junior Kendall reed won the 800 meter with a time of 2:19.77 followed by Alexander in third at 2:21.21 and Watkins in fifth as 2:23.31.

Junior Kira Curry had a nice day at shot put, finishing third with a throw of 11.67m while junior Riley McCormick and senior Mariko Krause placed third and fourth in the hammer with throws of 32.60m and 32.20m. Krause finished second in the javelin with a throw of 32.29m.
