Baseball Can't Find Rhythm in Midweek Loss to Piedmont

MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College baseball team struggled to get anything going on Wednesday afternoon as they welcomed in the Piedmont College Lions. The Lynx would eventually fall 8-0 at Stauffer Field.

The Lynx would fall behind 1-0 in the first and the deficit would increase to 2-0 after four and 5-0 after the fifth.

Rhodes had some opportunities in the first five innings to put a run on the board, coming away with four hits in the first five innings, but nothing to show for it. However, the Lynx would not get another hit in the final four innings.

Six different Lynx took the mount on Wednesday afternoon with freshman Cameron Tinker getting the start. Tinker (0-1) went four complete, allowing four hits, one earned run, and striking out four.

Sophomore Jack Mercer pitched 1.1 innings, allowing only one hit and striking out one while freshmen Jake Sossamon and Daniel Kurtzer each pitched an inning in relief, both coming away with two strikeouts and no hits allowed.

Offensively, sophomore Zac Lange finished 2-for-2 with a walk while sophomore Levi Greenberg and freshman Will Hunt had the only other hits for the Lynx in the ballgame.

Rhodes moves to 6-8 overall and will remain at home going into the weekend as they welcome in the University of the South for a three-game series in Southern Athletic Association play. The first game of a doubleheader will start on Saturday at 11 AM.
