WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Rhodes College baseball team erased a 4-0 deficit on Saturday morning to finish their Florida trip with a come-from-behind 10-5 win over Wheaton (Mass.) to complete a 3-1 week on their Spring Break trip.
The Lynx scored four runs in three innings and chased starter
Trey Mannion as well as
Daniel Kurtzer. However, Rhodes got some runs back in the fourth as sophomore
Levi Greenberg came through with a huge two RBI triple while senior
Marcus Moreland drove in Greenberg with a RBI single.
With the Lynx down 4-3, sophomore
Jack Mercer took the mound in the bottom of the fourth and began to limit the bats of Wheaton.
The Rhodes bats, which has been red hot all week, put four runs on the board to take the lead behind a two RBI sac fly from junior
Ryan Olive while freshman
Chris Winter and junior
Jackson Lourie each drove in RBI singles as Rhodes took a 7-4 lead.
Wheaton got a run back in the fifth, but sophomore
Zac Lange put the Lynx back up three with a RBI single in the sixth. Rhodes added two more runs in the eighth as junior
Bennett Notestine had a RBI triple while junior
Bill Munson scored Notestine on a sac fly.
Mercer (2-2) went six complete innings, allowing one run on seven hits and striking out seven in the contest.
Munson finished 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored while Lange went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases. Olive and Greeneberg were each 1-for-4 with two RBIs while Greenberg scored two runs. Moreland, Notestine, and Winter were 2-for-4.
Rhodes moves to 12-9 and will return home to enjoy the rest of the weekend before returning to class on Monday. The Lynx will prepare for a home matchup on Wednesday afternoon as they take on Illinois Wesleyan at 3 PM.
