Lynx Go Cold in Final Minutes in Road Loss to Berry

ROME, Ga. - The Rhodes College men's basketball team went toe-to-toe with the Berry College Vikings on the road on Sunday afternoon, but a 14-5 run in the final three minutes proved to be costly as the Lynx fell just short, 71-62.

Rhodes shot 23-for-47 (48.9%) from the field, but only 2-for-13 (15.4%) from behind the arch. For Berry, they shot 21-for-47 (44.7%) from the field and 7-for-19 (36.8%) from deep. Rhodes outrebounded the Vikings, 30-27, but lost the turnover battle, 19-18. The Lynx were dominant inside the paint, outscoring the Vikings 38-26.

After jumping out to 5-0 lead, Rhodes responded by scoring seven straight points thanks to points from juniors Brennan Sullivan and Daniel Galvin and sophomore Keyshawn Butts.

The two teams went back-and-forth throughout the half with the two teams tied at 22 with four minutes remaining. Rhodes would not score another field goal in the final minutes of the first half as Berry outscored the Lynx 6-1 to take a 28-23 lead at the break.

In the second half, Berry would maintain its lead, going up 41-36 with over 13 minutes to go. The Lynx would go on a 7-0 run as Galvin and freshman Daniel Darst put Rhodes on top, 43-41.

The Vikings would tie the game at 47, but Rhodes would push their lead out to four after back-to-back buckets from Galvin. Berry responded again, tying the game as both teams went back-and-forth towards the final minutes. 

With three minutes remaining, the Vikings finished the game on a 14-5 run to pull away and take the win at home.

Galvin finished with 25 points on the afternoon including six rebounds, two blocks, and one steal. Butts added 13 points and three steals to lead the way defensively. Sullivan had three assists while junior Andrew Lowrie had three steals on the afternoon.

For Berry, Lee McCloud led the way with 20 points while Lee Scherrman added 17 points.

Rhodes falls to 10-11 overall and 4-6 in Southern Athletic Association. The Lynx return to Mallory Gymnasium on Friday evening as they welcome in Centre College at 8 PM.
