Lynx Men Can't Cool Off Hot Shooting Centre in Home Loss

MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College men's basketball struggled to contain the hot shooting of the Centre College Colonels on Friday evening, falling to Centre 71-53 at Mallory Gymnasium.

The Lynx shot 20-for-44 (45.5%) from the field and 5-for-13 (38.5%) from behind the arch. Meanwhile, the Colonels were red hot, finishing 27-for-52 (51.9%) and 11-for-22 (50.0%) from downtown. The Colonels outrebounded the Lynx, 30-21, and won the turnover battle, 17-14.

Rhodes found themselves behind almost immediately, facing a 7-2 deficit early on. After the Lynx pushed it to 12-6, Centre went on a 10-0 run to take a 22-6 lead. The Lynx would cut the deficit down to 11, but that is as close as they would get in the first half as the Colonels took a 40-29 lead at the break.

Another 10-0 run early in the second half broke the game wide open as Centre turned an 11-point lead to a 21-point lead. Rhodes just did not have for the Colonels hot shooting as Centre pulled away for a 71-53 win.

Junior Brennan Sullivan finished with 15 points on the evening while sophomore Keyshawn Butts added 14 points. Sophomore Ian Harrison scored six off the bench. Junior Tyler Gee led the Lynx rebounders with five while freshman Daniel Darst and junior JJ Weir had three assists each. Defensively, Butts led the way with two steals.

For Centre, Blake Scinta led all scorers with 26 points on 11-for-15 shooting while Jarod Griffin scored 11.

Rhodes moves to 10-12 overall and 4-7 in the SAA. The Lynx are back in action on Sunday as they play in their final home game of the season against rival Sewanee at 3 PM.
