MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College women's lacrosse team returned home on Sunday afternoon, but had no answer for the visiting Augustana Vikings, falling 14-6 at Mason Field.
The Lynx were outshot 28-18 though 14 of Rhodes' shots were on target. Rhodes turned it over 19 times while Augustana only gave it away 13 times. The Lynx were 7-for-9 in clear attempts and 10-for-21 in draw controls.
Both teams exchanged goals in the first seven minutes as sophomores
Kendall Cunningham and
Olivia Holmes scored for the Lynx as they game was tied at two. From there, Augustana scored the next four goals to race out to a 6-2 lead.
Junior
Ashley Dill ended the run with a goal to cut it to 6-3, but the Vikings scored again with four minutes remaining to take a 7-3 lead into the break.
Augustana opened the half with a goal within the first 40 seconds of the second half to move the lead to 8-3. Dill scored her second goal of the game, but the Vikings went on to score the next four goals again to open up a 12-4 lead.
Sophomore
Maggie Rippeto and freshman
Annika Hedlund added goals towards the end of the game, but it was not enough as Augustana ran away with the match, winning 14-6.
Dill led the offense with two goals while Rippeto had a goal and an assist to go with a groundball. Sophomore
Rachel Windmueller picked up two groundballs while Cunningham finished with a goal and a caused turnover. Sophomore
Ashley Doyle came away with three draw controls.
The Vikings were paced by Anne Hopkins and Olivia Mayer who each had four goals on the afternoon while Kaylee Nolan had three goals and seven draw controls.
Rhodes now sits at 3-1 overall and will get ready for another Southern Athletic Association contest as they welcome in Oglethorpe University on Saturday at 5 PM.
