JACKSON, Miss. - Freshman
Will McIntyre scored a career-high 16 points on 5-for-7 shooting, all from the 3-point line, but it would not be enough as the Rhodes College men's basketball team fell to Millsaps College on Sunday afternoon, 50-46.
The Lynx struggled offensively, shooting only 17-for-59 (28.8%) from the field and 9-for-29 (31.0%) from downtown. The Majors weren't too much better, shooting 19-for-54 (35.2%) from the field and 3-for-14 (21.4%) from deep.
It was a tough start for both teams in the first half as neither side could get much of anything going on the offensive end. However, Rhodes got things rolling thanks to a 3 from McIntyre and points in the paint from sophomore
Ian Harrison and junior
Daniel Galvin to lead 10-5.
Millsaps responded to get it within one as both teams went back-and-forth throughout the final six minutes of the first half. The Majors would end up taking a 19-18 lead into the break.
The Majors started the second half on a 10-2 run to go up 29-20 and eventually would push the lead out to 12 at the midway point of the second half. With five minutes to go and the Lynx down nine, McIntyre converted a four point play followed by back-to-back 3's from junior
Brennan Sullivan and McIntyre to make it a two point game at 40-38.
Millsaps would push the lead out to four or five, but Rhodes would have an answer to bring the game back to two. With 18 seconds remaining, McIntyre hit his fifth 3 to make it a one point game. After a pair of free throws, sophomore
Price Dalton's 3-point shot would not fall and Millsaps used free throws to get the win, 50-46.
For McIntyre, his 16 points came in only 10 minutes played and he also added a block to his day. Sullivan had eight points while sophomore
Keyshawn Butts added seven points. Junior
JJ Weir had four assists while junior
Tyler Gee pulled down 11 rebounds.
Rhodes concludes the regular season at 10-15 and 4-10 in the SAA. They will now prepare for the SAA Tournament which will be held in Birmingham, Ala. The Lynx will be the No. 7 seed and will take on No. 2 seed Sewanee in the first round on Friday.
