AUSTIN, Texas - The Rhodes College baseball team wrapped up their Texas road trip on Saturday evening with a pair of losses to Pacific and George Fox. The Lynx fell to the Boxers in Georgetown, 12-9, and would fall to Bruins in Austin, Texas, 13-8.
In the first game, after falling behind 1-0, freshman
Chris Winter and junior
Bill Munson hit back-to-back solo homeruns to take a 2-1 lead. Pacfic responded with five runs in the fourth inning to pull ahead 6-2.
However, Rhodes did not go down easily as Winter and Munson each drove in their second RBIs of the day. Junior
Bennett Notestine and sophomore
Zac Lange drove in back-to-back runs to tie the game at six.
Pacific responded by scoring the next six runs to blow the game open at 12-6. Senior
Nathan Foshee blasted a three-run homer in the ninth, but it was not enough as the Lynx fell, 12-9.
Sophomore
Jack Mercer fell to 0-1 on the season, taking the loss after he came in relief for senior
Adam Putnam. Putnam pitched 3.1 innings, allowing six runs with only one being earned while striking out six. Mercer pitched 4.0 innings, allowing two earned runs.
Winter finished 2-for-4 with a homer, double, two RBIs, and two runs scored while Munson went 2-for-5 with a home run, triple, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Sophomore
Levi Greenberg had a pair of hits while Foshee finished 1-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs.
In the second game, Rhodes fell behind 12-0 to George Fox, but attempted to get back into it with a six run seventh innings and a two run eighth inning. However, it would not be enough as Rhodes would eventually fall, 13-8.
Notestine finished the game 2-for-3 a pair of RBIs while freshman
Will Hunt went 1-for-2 with a double, RBI, and two runs scored. Freshman
Jon Michael Lauck, freshman Ben Sigel, and Winter all had a RBI in the contest.
Sophomore
Trey Mannion earned the start for the Lynx and fell to 0-1 despite only allowing two earned runs on one hit in 2.0 innings pitched. Mannion struggled with control, walking three batters.
Rhodes falls to 3-4 overall and will look to bounce back next weekend as they welcome in Covenant College for a matchup at 2 PM.
