GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Rhodes College men's lacrosse team scored the first 11 goals of the game in their opener Southwestern University as they dominated the Pirates on the road, 11-3, for their first win of the 2016 season.
The two teams were even in shots at 26 a piece, but Rhodes had 21 shots on goal to Southwestern's 12. The Lynx forced 24 turnovers on the afternoon and were 21-for-23 on clears. Rhodes converted on 30 ground balls and won 8 of 18 faceoffs.
The Lynx scored three goals in the first six minutes as sophomore
Ryan Fennelly connected on a pair while senior
Jason Lee added a goal. The game would stay 3-0 for the next 20 minutes as the Rhodes defense did an incredible job limiting the Southwestern offense.
The final four minutes of the second quarter would belong to freshman
John Tooher as he connected on two goals, including one with 20 seconds left before the half, to push the lead ot 5-0. Senior
Cooper Robinson would assist on both goals.
With all the momentum on their side, Rhodes would push their lead to 6-0 as Tooher scored again two minutes in the second half. Junior
Mike Knudsen added a goal, with a man down, towards the end of the quarter to give the Lynx a dominating 7-0 lead.
Rhodes kept their foot on the gas in the fourth quarter as sophomores Austin Bridgeforth and
Steven Yowan each scored in the first five minutes and Fennelly added two more goals to his total to make it 11-0.
With the Lynx in control, Rhodes pulled its starters as Southwestern added three goals in the final four minutes. It would not nearly be enough as the Lynx started their season with a statement.
Fennelly led the attack with four goals and an assist while Tooher added three goals. Robinson had a pair of assists while Knudsen, Bridgforth, junior
Matthew Jones, and freshman
Tyler Milwit all added an assist as well.

John Wancowicz added three. Wancowicz and sophomore
John Snyder each caused two turnovers. Link finished with nine saves on the afternoon.
Rhodes begins the season 1-0 and will carry their big win into Irving, Texas as they prepare to battle the University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon. Faceoff is set for 2 PM.
