BELTON, Texas - The Rhodes College baseball team hit the road for the first time in 2016, heading to Belton, Texas for a pair of matchups against the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders and Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens. The Lynx earned a huge win in their matchup before falling later in the afternoon.
The Lynx would fall behind 2-0 as UMHB scored a pair in the bottom of the second thanks to a RBI triple and an error. Rhodes would respond with two runs in the fourth as sophomore Levin Greenberg drove home junior
Bill Munson on a fielder's choice followed by a double steal by Greenberg and junior Bennet Notestine to tie the game.
Rhodes moved ahead in the fifth as Munson reached on an error to score junior
Jackson Lourie. However, a RBI single by the Cru in the fifth tied the game at three.
In the seventh, a bunt single by Greenberg and a walk to senior
Marcus Moreland gave the Lynx two on with no out. After a sacrifice bunt by Lourie moved the runners into scoring position, senior
Nathan Foshee put down a beautiful suicide squeeze to score Greenberg and
Brady John from second, who never slowed down. The momentum swung in Rhodes' favor as they went ahead 5-3.
After starter
Blake Glauben ran into some trouble in the eighth, sophomore
Jack Mercer entered the game to try and finish things off. Entering the game with runners at first and second, Mercer got a huge double play to end the inning and proceeded to get another double play in the ninth to give the Lynx the win.
Glauben moves to 2-0 on the season after pitching 7.1 innings, allowing nine hits and four runs. He struck out nine in the game and did not walk a batter. Mercer ended up with the save, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing one hit. Jacob Krzemien took the loss for UMHB.
Munson, making his debut in 2016, finished 2-for-5 while Greenberg finished 1-for-4 with a RBI and run scored. Lourie went 1-for-2 with ar un scored while, despite going 0-for-2, Foshee had the huge go-ahead RBIs.
In the second matchup, the Lynx struggled to get anything going on the offensive end, finishing with only three hits in an 11-0 loss. The Sagehens made a 1-0 game a 4-0 game in the fifth, and moved it to 7-0 after seven.

Daniel Morris took his first loss April 13th, 2014, going 4.2 innings, allowing only four hits and one earned run.
Rhodes moves to 3-2 overall and will move south to Georgetown, Texas for a matchup with Pacific tomorrow at 11 AM. They will then go to Austin, Texas for a 6 PM first pitch against George Fox.
