CONWAY, Ark. - For three quarters, the Rhodes College women's basketball team just couldn't get anything to fall, and in the process, could not keep pace with the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs as they fell at the Cliff Garrison Classic on the campus of Hendrix, 63-41.
It was an abysmal night of shooting for Rhodes, going 12 of 58 (21%) from the field and 5 of 26 (19%) from behind the arch. Texas Lutheran countered by shooting 42% from the field while getting 30 points from its bench.
TLU took a 10-0 lead and never looked back, outscoring the Lynx 16-6 in the first quarter and extending that lead to 36-19 at the break. The Bulldogs held Rhodes to five points in the third quarter and opened up a 53-24 lead at the end of the three.
The Lynx did not go down quietly, scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter to lighten the deficit, but ultimately fell to the Bulldogs to fall to 1-4 on the young season.
Senior
Blaire Smith led the way with 13 points including three 3-pointers while freshman
Ashley Foret added eight points and junior
Jessie Ustick scored six. Freshman
Danielle Summers scored five points and had three steals while senior
Bailey Kramer pulled down 10 boards. Sophomore
Allie Young had seven rebounds and two blocks.
Cierra Jordan led TLU with 15 points and three steals while Kasey Hairell had 12.Â
It does not get easier for Rhodes, but they will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon as they take on the Trinity University Tigers at 11 AM on the second day of the Cliff Garrison Classic.
