Ustick's 16 Not Enough as Lynx Can't Keep Pace with Generals

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Junior Jessie Ustick scored 16 points while sophomore Allie Young added 10 as the Rhodes College women's basketball team could not keep pace with the Washington & Lee Generals, falling 76-53 on Thursday afternoon on the campus of Sewanee.

Rhodes finished 20 of 61 (33%) from the field and shot 3 of 15 (20%) from downtown. The Lynx did see a drastic improvement in free throw shooting, going 10 of 14 (71%) at the charity stripe. W&L shot 47% from the field and 50% from deep while out rebounding Rhodes 43-32. Rhodes was able to force 14 turnovers on the afternoon.

After falling behind 10-3, Rhodes would close the gap to four late in the first quarter, but the Generals closed the quarter with four straight points to take a 14-7 lead at the end of one.

Ustick would get the scoring in the second quarter, scoring six points while Young added four as Rhodes was able to get some offense together. However, the General offense was on fire as they out scored the Lynx 27-17 in the second to take a 41-24 lead at the break.

W&L extended the lead to 23 at the end of three. Rhodes would continue to battle as they tried to cut into the deficit in the fourth quarter, but the Generals walked away with a 76-53 victory.

Ustick was 7 of 14 from the field while Young went 4 of 6 to go with a pair of steals. Freshman Ashley Foret added seven points while junior Erin Deery chipped in six. Senior Bailey Kramer had six rebounds while sophomore Sara Giesen had five. Senior Blaire Smith had four assists.

Rhodes moves to 1-9 on the season and will continue their tough non-conference schedule tomorrow as they take on Maryville on the road at 4 PM.
