Lynx Remain Unbeaten in SAA Play with Offensive Explosion Against Oglethorpe

MEMPHIS - Sophomore Sydnie Schindler netted a hat trick as the Rhodes College women's soccer team moved to 3-0 in Southern Athletic Association play with a 7-0 blowout win over Oglethorpe on the road.

The Lynx are now 6-2 overall and have won five straight contests. They out shot the Stormy Petrels 21-1 including a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal. Rhodes also had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks in the game.

Schindler put Rhodes ahead 3-0 in the first half as all three of her goals came in the first 45 minutes. She struck in the 26th minute as she scooped up a loose ball from junior Emma Selner in the box for a goal. A long ball into the box from sophomore Aly Hoyt would find Schindler in the 32nd minute and make the game 2-0.

Her third goal would come in the 36th minute as sophomore Rachel Giampapa crossed into the box and gave Schindler her second hat trick of the year and seventh goal of the season.

Rhodes would score four goals in the second half, putting the match out of reach. Junior Rachel Coyle scored in the 58th minute on a beautiful long shot while Giampapa followed with a goal in the 63rd minute on a free kick cross from freshman Taylor Ryan.

Sophomore Merrill Stovroff would score on a PK in the 87th minute and followed with an assist in the 88th minute to junior Hope Elliott as the match would close with a 7-0 Lynx win.

Junior Anna Maldonado picked up the win in goal while sophomore Olivia Marshall played the second half, picking up one save. Rhodes got an excellent defensive effort from seniors Kelsey Sweeney and Sarah Wachter, junior Ellie Valega, and freshman Carly Cone.

The Lynx will look to keep the momentum going as they go to Mount Berry on Sunday afternoon for a 1 PM ET match up against the Berry Vikings.
