MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College volleyball team opened up Homecoming Weekend on campus while also closing their regular season slate as they cruised past LeMoyne-Owen in three sets to build momentum for the upcoming SAA Championship.
The Lynx moved to 12-11 on the year and will finish with an overall record above .500 for the first time since the 2007 season.
Rhodes was completely in control all match, finishing with 42 kills to 13 errors for a hitting percentage of .293. They held the Magicians to a .021 hitting percentage. The Lynx had six aces, six blocks, 39 assists, and 49 digs in the match.
After a brief 5-5 tie in the first set, Rhodes scored 11 of the next 12 points to move ahead 16-6. They would push that lead out to 19-7 before wrapping up the set at 25-11.
The only set that proved to be competitive on Friday evening was set two, as LeMoyne-Owen looked to steal a set to get back into the match. Rhodes led 19-11, but the Magicians crept back into it to make it 23-21.
However, the Lynx closed the set with two straight points behind a kill from sophomore
Morgan Hill to take the set at 25-21.
From there, Rhodes came out smoking in set three as they led 6-0 in the blink of an eye. The Lynx moved that lead out to 14-4 as they closed the set and the match at 25-11.

Heather Antrim had five. Hill hit .417 in the match while Antrim added a .357 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Hannah McCarty had 19 assists while sophomore

Catherine Grimes was terrific in her final match at Mallory Gym, going for 21 digs. Platt, sophomore
Lulu Schulz, and junior
Gabby Gafford all had two blocks on the night.
Rhodes will head to Conway, Ark. next weekend for the 2016 Southern Athletic Association Championship. The Lynx enter as the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 5 seed Centre in the quarterfinals. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 PM, or following the Hendrix/Millsaps match at 1 PM.
