JACKSON, Miss. - Junior forward
Rachel Coyle connected on the game winner in overtime to give the Rhodes College women's soccer team a 2-1 overtime win over the Belhaven Blazers in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.
Rhodes moves to 8-3-1 on the season with on matchup left to go on the regular season schedule.
The Lynx were dominant on the night, out shooting the Blazers 15-5, but were slightly off target for some of the night as the two teams were even in shots on goal at four a piece. Rhodes also held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Rhodes was in complete control early on, earning five corner kicks in the first 25 minutes, but could not come away with a goal in the early parts of the game. In the 26th minute, senior
Nicolette Glidden sent a beautiful corner into the box that found senior
Kelsey Sweeney for the early one goal lead.
Despite out shooting Belhaven, 7-2, but only held the one goal lead at the break.
In the second half, it seemed as those it was more of the same for Rhodes; however, the Blazers found an equalizer in the 71st minute as Erica Rempel scored from 15 yards out. Rhodes out score Belhaven 3-1 in the final 20 minutes but could not find the game winner in regulation as the Lynx moved to overtime for the second straight match.
It only took three minutes for Rhodes to find the game winning golden goal as Coyle made a run to the box and scored from 10 yards out to give the Lynx their eighth win of the season.

Emma Selner jump started the Lynx attack for most of the match while the Rhodes defense was solid for the night led by junior
Ellie Valega, senior
Sarah Wachter, and freshman
Carly Cone.
Rhodes will take on Hendrix on Saturday at 7:30 PM in Conway in the final matchup of the regular season. A Rhodes win and Sewanee loss to Centre will give the Lynx the No. 2 seed. Rhodes will be playing a home game next Saturday in Memphis no matter the result this upcoming weekend.
