Lynx Volleyball Comeback Effort Falls Short at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Rhodes College volleyball team dropped a tough 3-1 decision to rival Sewanee on Saturday afternoon in Southern Athletic Association play, digging themselves a 2-0 hole that they weren't able to climb out.

Rhodes moves to 6-7 on the year and 2-4 in the SAA while Sewanee moves to 8-6 and 2-4 in the SAA.

The Lynx played a great match in their attack, finishing with 54 kills to go with 22 errors for a hitting percentage of .205. Sewanee was great on their end, hitting .182 in the match with 44 kills and 15 errors.

Despite a back-and-forth first set that saw the match tied at 16, the Tigers rallied for five straight points to take a commanding 21-16 lead and would close out Rhodes for the 25-20 victory.

The momentum for Sewanee carried over to the second set where the Tigers jumped out to a 12-4 lead and, despite a great effort from Rhodes, would win the set rather comfortably at 25-20.

The third set proved to be the Lynx best set of the day as they hit a blistering .424 including 17 kills in the set to go with only three errors. The Lyn would be down 8-4, but rallied for four straight points to tie the match. After a back-and-forth set found it tied at 15, Rhodes would dominate the rest of the set including six straight points to close the set at 25-18.

However, it was not enough. The Lynx would go up 7-1 in set four and would even hold a 14-7 lead, but a furious come-from-behind win in the set by the Tigers would clinch the match, 25-21.

Sophomore Ellen Platt led the attack with 16 kills followed by freshman Heather Antrim with 13 and sophomore Elasha Williams with nine. Platt hit an impressive .341 while Antrim was on fire at .417. Sophomore Hannah Antrim has 28 assists while sophomore Arati Joshi had 16.

Defensively, senior Catherine Grimes had 24 digs while Williams added 20 in the match. Platt would add four blocks to her big day while sophomore Lulu Schulz had four and sophomore Caroline Perlis had three.

Rhodes will finish their conference weekend on the road in Danville, Ky. as they prepare for a 1 PM ET matchup against Centre.
