MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College women's basketball team shot a season low 24.6% from the field and 17.6% from downtown as they would fall to Hendrix College Warriors, 51-38, on Saturday afternoon at Mallory Gymnasium.
Rhodes finished 14-for-57 from the field and 3-for-17 from deep while Hendrix was 18-for-49 (36.7%) from the field and 5-for-16 (31.3%) from three. Rhodes forced 16 turnovers while only turning it over 12 times, but were dominated on the boards as Hendrix held a 44-31 advantage.
Rhodes held an early 5-3 lead thanks to a three from freshman
Sara Giesen and a bucket in the paint from senior
Symone Daniels. However, Hendrix answered with an 11-0 run thanks in part to a red-hot Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler. Rhodes would close the gap to seven at the end of the quarter, trailing 16-9.
Rhodes clawed back into the contest, making it a 20-18 game after a pair of free throws from Daniels. But again, an 8-0 run to close the quarter from Hendrix gave the Warriors a 28-18 advantage at the break.
The Lynx battled back in the third quarter, moving as close as six points, but the Warriors used a short 6-0 run early in the fourth to move ahead by 12. Rhodes could not muster anything in the fourth quarter to keep in reach as they eventually dropped their SAA matchup to Hendrix, who earned the sweep over the Lynx.
Daniles was the only player in double figures, going for 10 points to go with six rebounds, four steals, and two blocks. Junior
Bailey Kramer added eight points and 10 boards while Giesen chipped in with five. Junior
Blaire Smith had four assists and a block.
Rhodes falls to 7-8 and 1-3 in SAA play. They return to the court on Friday as they welcome in Oglethorpe for a conference matchup at 6 PM.
