Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

'Roos Spoil Lynx Home Opener

MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College men's soccer team opened their 2015 season at home on Saturday afternoon against the Austin College 'Roos. After no score in regulation, the 'Roos were able to find the golden gold in the 115th minutes to defeat the Lynx, 1-0.

Rhodes was the aggressor throughout a pretty even first half. The Lynx out shot the 'Roos, 7-4, and held a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks. However, Austin College was able to outshoot the Lynx in the second half, 10-8, though Rhodes again held the advantage in corners at 6-3.

In the first overtime, Rhodes took five shots with three on target as they looked to get out with a win. However, the 'Roos defense held strong and was able to fend off the onslaught and move the game into a second overtime.

In the 115th minute, Phillip Le broke through to give the 'Roos the victory and spoil opening day for the Lynx.

Sophomore Matt McKeand led the offensive attack with five shots on goals, but could not find the go-ahead goal. Sophomore Mark Robinson added four shots while freshman Austin Ly had three.

Freshman Patrick Wilkerson got the start in goal and had a relatively quiet day, only playing one half and making one save. Senior Riley Sheen would play the rest of the game and finish with six saves.

The Lynx will look to rebound tomorrow as they will return home for a matchup against the Ozarks at 4 p.m. The Eagles picked up a win earlier in the day, defeating Fontbonne, 2-1.
