Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches on First Day of ASICS Invite

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Rhodes volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to ninth-ranked Washington-St. Louis and the University of Dallas on Friday afternoon at the ASICS Invite on the campus of Washington University.

The Lynx fall to 1-2 on the season after opening the year with a 3-0 win over Belhaven at home on Tuesday. They return to the court tomorrow in St. Louis against Rose-Hulman and Blackburn.

After dropping the first set to the Bears, 25-10, Rhodes stood toe-to-toe with Washington throughout the second set. The two teams had an answer for each other on each point as both teams could only muster a rally of three points each. The Lynx had a chance to clinch the set, but the Bears battled back and the set continued until Washington finally pushed through with two straight points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Through two sets, freshman Lulu Schulz was phenomenal, coming away with seven kills and an impressive .700 hitting percentage.

The Bears would put things away in the final set, taking it 25-17 to move to 2-0 on the young year.

Schulz finished with seven kills while sophomore Elasha Williams and freshman Caroline Perlis each finished with six kills. Freshman Ana McMullen added 18 assists and led the way defensively with eight digs.

In the second match, Rhodes could not get anything going offensively, only hitting .016 percent as they fell 25-20, 25-13, 25-17. Schulz led the offense again with seven kils while Perlis added five kills and four blocks. McMullen had 12 assists in the match while Maraia Tremarelli picked up 18 digs.

The Lynx will take the court against Rose-Hulman at 9:30 a.m. and are scheduled for a 1:30 start time against Blackburn. Click here for the tournament website.
