Schindler's Game Winning Goal Gives Lynx OT Conference Victory

MEMPHIS - Freshman Sydnie Schindler scored the game winning goal in the second overtime period to propel the Rhodes College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over the Hendrix Warriors in Southern Athletic Association play on Wednesday afternoon.

It was Schindler's second goal of the season and was set up beautifully by fellow freshman Aly Hoyt in the 106th minute. The win gives the Lynx their first conference victory of the season and moves them towards the top of the SAA standings.

Rhodes got on the board first as junior Angie Hurlow scored in the 14th minute to put the Lynx on top, 1-0. It was Hurlow's first goal of the 2015 season.

Hendrix would respond in the 20th minute as Samantha Lallas found Sydney King to tie things up. The game would move into the break still tied at one a piece.

Rhodes would dominate the second half offensively, controlling possession and outshooting the Warriors, 13-2, throughout the half; however, the Lynx could not find the go-ahead goal in regulation.

Rhodes had a chance to win it late in the second half, putting pressure on goalkeeper Jordan Rausch, but sophomore Emma Selner's shot just deflected off the crossbar with less than 30 seconds remaining as the game would move into overtime.

The Lynx would again dominate possession, outshooting Hendrix, 7-0 in the two overtime periods. Rhodes had multiple chances in the first overtime, but the Warrior defense, led by Rausch, stonewalled the Lynx to keep the game knotted at one.

Finally in the 106th minute of the second overtime, Schindler earned her first career game winner to send the Lynx bench into jubilation after the huge win.

Selner would lead the offensive attack with six shots in the match including three on target while senior Elizabeth Wayda and junior Sarah Wachter each added three shots in the contest. Senior goalkeeper Chandler Kuhlman earned the victory for Rhodes, playing 106 minutes and earning one save.

Rhodes moves to 6-3-1 overall and 1-0 in SAA play. The Lynx will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. to take on Birmingham-Southern College. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT.
